I didn’t expect to come across this article.. I’m wondering how he did it? Who told on him?

Den Dade was using the electricity for his own personal use – lighting his house. The news clip was published in The Canton Press-News Canton, Missouri on Thursday, November 28, 1935 on page 3. He pleaded guilty and was fined $5 and the amount of to $14.50.

Nora Den “Dennie’ Dan Dade (1877 – 1975)

Den was born on Sunday, June 26, 1877 in Canton, Missouri along with his twin sister. Duana. They were the children of Louis Newton “Old Bone” Dade and Mary (Vernoy) Dade. ~ Louis and Mary had 11 children.

Den was a decorator , painter, and a paper hanger. He was married to Louetta Robinson Dade. They had 8 children. Den passed on Sunday, June 15, 1975, at the age of 97.

How am I connected with Den?
His father Louis Newtown “Old Bone” Dade was the brother of my Great Grandmother Charlotta Dade / Lankford / Lankfard.

Carroll County Missouri Connections: A Place That Matters

 I first heard of Carrollton, Missouri from my father David’s side of the family. His mother Jennie (Bartlett) Lyles was born there in May of 1883. Jennie was the daughter of Elias W. Bartlett Sr. and Harriett (Hooper / Buffington ) Bartlett. Harriett’s grandmother Hannah (Hopper / Buffington) died and was buried there in 1884 at the age about 118.

I discovered that my Grandfather John Blakey / Blakley was a farmhand there.This was accordring to the June 5, 1900 Wakenda towmship in Carroll County Missouri census. He was living in the household of Charles Martin. (John most likely met Jennie in Carrollton, Missouri. John was living in Chariton Township in Howard County Missouri in June of 1880.)

According to John’s and Jennie’s 1902 marriage license, they were listed as John Blakye of Carrollton, in the County of Carroll and State of Missouri and Jennie Bartel of St. Joseph in the County of Buchanan and the State of Missouri They were married on the day they received their marriage license on Monday, July 28, 1902 in Excelsior Spring, Clay County Missourri They were married by Justice of the Peace, C. M. Ewing..

Where is Carroll County in Missouri? It’s located in the North Central part of Missouri. What’s so special about this place? It’s the place where some of my ancestors and relatives lived out their lives.

And lo and behold, I came across some DNA matches on my mother Lula’s, DADE Family Connections, Some still live in Carrollton. And some moved to St. Joseph, Missouri. What a small world! Some of my Bartlett relatives moved to St. Joseph near the 1900’s. Could they have followed one another?
