As I’m discovering information about my relatives, I noticed a pattern. Then again, I’ve learned that this method works in some cases. And in the case of Mrs Mary Dade’s obituary, it provided new clues. What a discovery that was!. It led me to something else.
Mrs. Mary Ann Dade was the wife of Louis Newton “Old Bone” “Lew” Dade, who was an enslaved person. Mary was born on Saturday, May 1, 1847 in Marion County Missouri. She was an enslaved person and the property of Mary Vaughn until the end of the Civil War. She passed on Thursday, August 19, 1915 in Canton, Missouri. (Louis and Mary were well known and respected in Canton, Missouri,)
I was online, searching through old newspaper. I came across Mary’s 1915 obituary. As I read it, I noticed some things about her survivors.. The names of her sons were Den “Dan” Dade, George Dade, Golden Dade, Mone Dade and John Wesley Dade. The obituary mentioned three daughters but, not by their names .
Mary’s daughters’ names were Miss Mary Belle Dade, Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Dade and Miss Duana Dade. What clicked in my thinking was the daughter Duana. She was STILL living!! I thought she passed. I couldn’t find any clues on her. Until, I read her mother’s obituary.
