I came across a news article that was published in The Call in Kansas City, Missouri on Friday , January 19, 1951. It was on page 16. There was a special occasion that took place on Christmas Day. Dade Family Connections: So Many Descendants

In the beginning, I didn’t know that “Uncle Isaac” a.k.a. Isaac Dade Sr. and “Aunt Frankie”a.k.a. Frances (Ovington) Dade were my second great grandparents. Their daughter Charlotta Lottie (Dade) Lankford / Lankfard was my great grandmother. Since my early discoveries, I continue to search for my Dade Family Connections.

Photo is of my Great Grandparents (Robert Louis) Lewis Lankford’s and Miss Charlotta Dade’s marriage certificate: Dated January 23rd, 1873 in Canton, Lewis County Missouri. The two witnesses to their marriage were Isaac Dade and Francis Dade. I began to search to see who were Isaac Dade and Francis. I have located them on the Missouri censuses. (NOTE: the index on record states the date of marriage was on Jan 25 nd, 1873.)

On the United States Federal 1900 census for Lewis County; Canton, Missouri, it states that Frances Dade had 14 children in which 7 were living at the time of the census on June 11th. I have located 7 of Frances’ 14 children. I pieced the puzzle together as I found more information on each child.

I have been compiling a list of the descendants of Isaac and Frances:
Here is a list of the 7 known children.

Louisa Jane “Aunt Janie” (DADE) WASHINGTON, the of mother of 13
Benjamin “Ben” DADE, the of father of 15
Mary Ann (DADE) MADISON, the of mother of 7
Isaac DADE a.k.a. Private Isaac DAYD, the of father of 5
Louis Newton “Old Bone” DADE, the of father of 11
Crieldy / Cyrilda (DADE) GREEN, the of mother of 2
Charlotta Lottie (DADE) LANKFORD / LANKFARD, the of mother of 11

Which sibling has the most descendants, so far?
I thought Louisa Jane (DADE) WASHINGTON had a lot of descendants. I was wrong. When I came across Benjamin “Ben” DADE, I wasn’t for sure if he was related. However, I received confirmation that he was through France’s death notice and through DNA matches with his descendants. I began to add Ben’s lineage to the family tree. I thought I couldn’t keep up with the list.

I had to challenge myself to compile Benjamin “Ben” Dade’s lineage on a calendar by sorting by names to their birth dates and death dates. I have done this with my other family connections branches. I use a big calendar and combined my Blakey Blakley WHITE family on one calendar and my Bartlett Family on another one and so one.

However, when I came to Benjamin’s lineage, I had to rethink how to do his. He has so many descendants. His lineage won’t fit with my other DADE Family calendar that includes Louisa, Louis, Mary, and Charlotta. There wasn’t enough space.

I had to started two other DADE Family calendars one for Isaac DADE Jr. / Isaac DAYD and the other for Benjamin DADE. The other two children of Frances: Isaac DADE Jr / DAYD and Crieidy / Cyrida Dade Green are on the same calendar.

A Surprising Discovery:
I noticed that some of the Benjamin’s descendants married into Louisa DADE Washington’s descendants. This was a surprise to come across. I thought to myself, I saw this name before. I’m in the process of searching more on Ben DADE.

Story has it that Ben Dade lived in Texas. He had a first wife. I’m exploring what one of Ben Dade’s descendant shared with me.

That was were I found the above information.
Here's a few things I came up with.

On The 1870 census
Louis was listed with the name spelled Lewis Dade, age 23 MO born 1847.
Appeared living with parents, Isaac and Franky Dade.
His wife, Mary and their son Gilman born 1870.
Gilman could have been Japlin G? year of birth 1866.
I couldn't find Japin on the 1870 census.

On The 1880 Census
Louis was listed as Lewis Dade, age 33, MO born 1847,
Married to Mary R. Dade, Listed with 6 children;
Japlin, Mary, Margaret, Diane, Dennie and Isaac.

On The 1990 Census
Louis was listed as Louis BATES age 52, MO Born Oct 1847.
Wife, Mary A. BATE, married age 30; 1870
Louis was listed with 7 children
Mary, Margaret, Pearl, George, Golden, Money, Wesley
and one grandson, Roy who was Pearl's son.
Wife, Mary A. was the mother of 11
with 10 living when the 1900 census was taken.
Don't know if that could have been Gilman?

On The 1910 Census
Louis was listed as Lewis Dade, age 62, MO, Born about 1848,
Married to Mary A. Dade with 4 sons, Pearl, Golden, Mane (Mone), and Weslie.
They lived on 11th Street.

On The 1920 Census
This was the first time Louis was listed as Louis N. Dade, age 72 MO, Born about 1848,
Widowed. Lived with daughter, Maggie (Margaret) and Maggie's daughter, Julia born about 1903.
They lived at 1013 Grand Street. Louis owned the home.

On The 1930 Census
Louis was listed as Louis Dade age 83, MO born about 1847. Widowed,
Listed with daughter, Margaret born about 1879 and her daughter, Julia born about 1913 < wrong year. Lived on Grant Street Louis owned his home.
His job was curvier: bones and shell work .

Piecing The Story Together:
Frances OVINGTON DADE was lsted as 101 on the 1900 MO census.
According to the 1900 census, she was listed having 14 children.
7 were living at the time when the census was taken.

So far, I've come across 4 of the 14 children of Frances Ovington Dade.

1.) Louisa Jane / Janie Dade Washington
Mrs. David Washington
(
1826 - 1910)

2.) Mary Ann Dade Madison
Mrs. William Madison(1836 - 1921)

3.) Louis Newton Dade
A.K.A. Louis "Lew" Dade

(1847 - 1937)

4.) Charlotta / Charlottie Dade Lankford
Mrs. Robert Lewis Lankford(1852 - 1924)

Family History 2010 Journey: Part 1 New Information

It's been a great year searching on the family history. I came across a lot of information. There were names that I've added to the family tree. There were some people and relatives I've met for the first time.

Here are just a few things I came across.

I came across another connection on Frances Ovington Dade. This branch is on my mother's father's mother Charlotta Dade Lankford. Charlotta had a sister named Louisa Jane Dade Washington. Louisa has a lot of offspring. I came across about 3 or 4 searchers searching the Louisa Dade Washington lineage.

I came across something on my mother's father's father, Robert Louis Lankford. On the 1870 census Robert / Lewis Langford lived on the same block as his future sister in law, Mary Dade Madison. I think Robert went by Louis at times.

I came across something about my mother's father, Leo Lankford. According to Leo's World War II draft registration, he was paralyzed in the left hand and leg since he was four years old. I noticed in some photos Grandpa Leo held his hand a certain way. There are some photos with him with a cane.

I came across something on my mother's mother's mother, Anna Laura Washington Allen Walters. Anna was the mother of three children. I thought that the Walter children were Anna's step children. Anna went by Laura at times. But, I think her first name was Anna.

I came across John Nelson who was Anna Laura Walters grandson by her another daughter, "Bonita"/ Mary who was a Walters. John died in Atchison, Kansas in 1976. I don't know happened to John's parents. John's mother was listed as a widow on the 1910 census.

I came across something on my father's mother, Jennie Bartlett Blakley Lyle. She remarried some time in 1920 to a CHILTON Lyle. I thought her 2nd husband's first name was CHELTON.

Jennie knew Chilton about July of 1919. They had a child named Dorothy born April of 1920. The child later died July of 1920. Not for sure if Dorothy and a twin?

There were two death records. One with Dorothy's name on it. The other with Davis name on it. One died on July 3, 1920. The other on July 5, 1920.

I came across some information that I'm not for sure on my father's father John Blakley. Or  aka John Blakey. There was a black, John Blakey listed in the Kansas City, Missouri area around 1900.

I don't know if it was my Grandpa John. John married Jennie Bartlett in Excelsior Springs, Clay County, Missouri. John married with the BLAKEY surname.

However, John's surname was spelled BLAKYE on the marriage record. Also John was listed from Carrollton, Missouri while Jennie BARTEL was from St. Joseph, Missouri.

I came across some things I've overlooked on the Blakey White family. My father's father's father's mother, Julia White had a granddaughter named, Rebecca White.

On the 1880, Rebecca was listed as mulatto born in Missouri. Her parents were born in Virginia. I don't know if Rebecca carried the White surname. I can assume that Rebecca's parents passed away and Julia took care of her.

I've been searching for Mattie White and her daughter Ella Bentley Carr. I'm still looking into that. I came across an Ella White listed with Mattie who had 5 children...

I can't locate where Mattie and Ella passed away. Mattie died about 1947. Ella died about 1923.  This information was from family reunion booklets.

I found out about Richard "Dick" White's 2nd wife, Belle Stapleton. Her name was Mary Belle Brooks. She was the widow of David Stapleton. David and Belle had three children.

I'm still coming across information. I believe that there is more out there. I believe through time, I may stumble across some more clues. I don't have all the living descendants on the family tree.

Through the years I've been adding names to the family tree. Maybe some day, I'll come across more of the relatives that I don't know about. I'll add them to the list too. The family tree keeps growing.

My Quest Continues...

A Rediscovery On The DADE Side

This was written in 2009. I reworded some things. Also ... added some updates with photos to bring the story to life.

This year, I've been making some rediscoveries on my family history. I must be on the right road. I'm doing OK! The joy of the Lord is my strength. Grace to you.

I been rediscovered some thing about my family history. I got some new leads on my Great Grandma Charlotta Dade Lankford. What a discovery, I came upon.

More over 20 years ago a lady from Illinois wrote me. She sent some information on her Dade lineage in Canton, Missouri area. She thought that we were related some how.

Back in 1988, I didn't have a lot of information as I have now. It was through the Missouri death Rrecords from 1910 - 1959 where I gained new insight on my lineage. There was so much that I didn't know.

Yeah, I've been making new found discoveries. I have connected what information I have found to this with the information 20 years ago. I can see that a "Lew" Louis Dade was my Great Grandmother Charlotta's brother. It was through their death records and census records that I made the discovery.

I see that Lewis (Louis) or Lew and Charlotta have the same names as parents. Isaac Dade and "Frankie" Frances Dade. Louis or "Lew" lived near the same Isaac and "Frankie" in the 1870's. Louis actually lived with them at one time.

I have come across at least 4 of Isaac and "Frankie's" children. Frankie was said to have had 14 children. One in which was Charlotta Dade Lankford. I came across information on Charlotta's death record on July 31, 2008. It took a while for me to locate Great Grandma Charlotta's death record. (See below)

There is so much that I have gain during the past three weeks in 2009. Back then, I added a lot more Dades to the family lineage. There are some similar surnames as well. This is confusing. I have to get the Madison, Washington and Nickerson right on my mother's side.

I thought that it was way too late to start searching for my family history after my mother's mother passed away in November of 1975. You know what? I thought wrong.

Since I began, I have gained a lot of information. And with more information begin made open to the public, I am learning more about my ancestors. I am glad that I have that spirit to search for my family history.

I pray that there will be people who are curious about their ancestors. It is good to know who the people before us were. They were as human as we are.

They lived on this planet just as we are. Some fell asleep in Jesus Christ. We who have called upon Jesus as LORD and Savior shall see them again when the time comes.

May we make more rediscoveries of things that we over look in life. May we be lead by the Spirit of God. May we see the hidden mysteries of the past.

A good man leave an inheritance to his children's children, But the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous. NKJV Proverbs 13:22

For there those who carried us away captive asked of us a song, And those who plundered us requested mirth, Saying, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion!" NKJV Psalm 137:3

A Rediscovery On The DADE Side
I think the more that I search I find out more.
Below: Charlotta Dade Lankfard's Death Record. One of your sons was the informat. His name was Isaac. However, I have not located an Isaac Lankford Jr.

It's still a mystery who Isaac Lankford Jr. is Perhaps he was Louis Lankford. Charlotta had at least 3 sons in New York at the time of her death. Louis, Frederick and Nym.
As the years go by I see new things.
My Journey continues...
Happy Day To You!
God Bless.

Dade Connections: Mary Ann DADE MADISON

The Frances OVINGTON DADE Connections.

Frances was my mother's father's mother's mother
Frances had 14 children.
Through research, I have come across 4 of them.

(My mother's father's mother)
4.) Charlotta DADE LANKFORD
1852 - 1924

3.) Louis Newton DADE
1847 - 1937

2.) Mary Ann DADE MADISON
1836 - 1921
I can't remember when I came across Mary Ann Dade.
I first saw her name on the MO death records.
One day I was searching of Dades in Lewis County MO.
That's when I found Mary Ann MADISON's Death Record.
I read who her parents were.
I saw the Frances OVINGTON DADE Connections

According to Mary Ann Dade Madison's death record, she was born on Nov 16, 1836. Through other research I can conclude that she was the daughter of Frances (OVINGTON) and Isaac DADE.

Mary Ann married George Madison om July 22, 1865.
On their marriage record they listed 2 children prior to the marriage.
Sarah Jane Madsion aot 5 and William Henry Madison about 2.

Mary Ann and George had a slave marriage in 1857.
Mary Ann was the mother of 7 children.
She died on Dec 24, 1921 in Canton MO.

After searching the census and marriage records this is was I came up with.
Mary Ann and George Dade on the MO census records. With their children...
Sarah Jane Madison
born about 1860
William Henry Madison born about 1862
William married Hannah Jane Ashby on August 14, 1881

Margaret Madison
about 1865
Sarilda Madison
about 1869
Elizabeth Madison
 about 1869
Thomas Madison
about 1871
Unknown Madison

On the  1870 MO Census
Mary Ann age 27 MO born in 1843.
She was keeping house. White with 5 children

On  the 1880 MO Census
Mary A. was 45 born in 1835

On  the 1900 MO Census
Mary A. MAAISON was 63 MO in 1830
Mother of 7 with 2 living. Year of marriage 1857.
Her mother Frances Dade black/ white  age 101 KY Born was in her household.

On the 1910 MO Census
Mary was a widow. Age 73 MO born in 1837.
Black living with daughter Essie M. Wilson MO born about 1890
and granddaughter Opal Wilson  MO born about 1908

On the 1920 MO Census
Mary owned her home. age 84 MO born 1836 Black
Living with daughter Essie M. Wilson
and granddaughter Opal GAYNER born about 1909.

There's not much more that I have come across on
Mary Ann and George Madison.
I Believe that there are some descendants on Mary Ann and George Madison.

Maybe one day someone will have that desire to learn more about their family history. They will start their journey ontheir family history. They may even think that that's how far can they go back.

Dade Connections: Louisa Jane / Janie DADE WASHINGTON

On May 8th 2010,  I came across someone who was searching for
Jane WASHINGTON lineage.

I checked the Missouri Death Records.
Here was what I found.
And I saw...
Another Frances OVINGTON DADE Connection.

      According to her death record,
Louisa Jane Washington died on April 21, 1910.
She was born in March of 1817. I think Louisa Janes's birth year was an error.
After some searching on Louisa Jane, I came up with 5 different birth years.

I searched the MO census records...Jane was born
According to the Census...
1870 born in 1842
1880 born in 1836
1900 born in 1841
1910 born in 1816
and on the death record
In 1910 born in 1817.

I checked the Missouri 1910 census records. On that 1910 census, there was a Jane Washington listed with J. Washington, a black male in Dickerson, Lewis, Missouri. Most likely this Jane(listed born 1816) could be the right Jane Washington.

On the 1910 census, Jane's son was born 1868. He could have been John Washington born in 1858. There was a 10 year age difference. Jane's age on the 1910 census record was 94..  (Also, I noticed that the census was taken 15 days before Louisa Jane died.)

So, the year of Louisa birth can be accepted... about Mar 1826 in Kentucky. I have searched for Louisa Jane's parents. Her mother, Frances / Frankie OVINGTON Dade was born about 1812 in KY. There were other birth years for Frances; Dec 1799, and 1810. Louisa Jane's father Isaac DADE was born about 1808 in  VA.

Louisa Jane DADE married David Washington.

David Washington
abt 1828 - Mar 19, 1897

According to the 1900 MO census,

Additional Information on
David and Louisa Jane Washington.
On the 1870 Missouri Census in Lewis County,
there was a household listing a David and Jane Washington.
There was a child named Ellen LOVE, mulatto born in about 1859 in MO.
There were 3 other children.
Those children were listed as black.
|
Fannie Washington
Born about 1863 in MO
Believed to have been a child of David and Jane Washington

Jane Washington
Born about 1865 in MO
Believed to have been a child of  David and Jane Washington

George Washington

Believed to have been a child of David and Jane Washington

This list is a total of 10 children of David and Jane Washington.

There was a Francis Washington who died on June 8, 1884
She was buried near David, William and Benjamin in MO.
Perhaps Francis was related.
So that would make it 2 children... unaccounted for.

Ellen HENDRED's Death Record...
According to an Eddie Hendred.
Ellen's father's surname was an unknown LOVE.
Ellens' Mother, Janie DADE

Note: According to William Manley, husband of Luella Hendred's death record, Ellen Hendred was born in Monticello, Missouri.. Wonder if Eddie Hendred could have been George Edward Hendred? Edward Hendred married an Rhena Roberson on Dec 3, 1903 in MO.

Hope this information was helpful. Especial to the descendants of Louisa Jane / Janie DADE WASHINGTON. May we all continue to search for our family lineage. May we continue to add something to the family tree.

I'm connected on the Charlotta DADE LANKFORD Branch. The LANKFORD Connections. Louisa Jane was one of  Charlotta's sisters. Charlotta was my  Great Grandmother on my mother's father's side.

Another Frances OVINGTON DADE Connection

On May 8th 2010, I logged in to ancestry.com. I came across someone who has a connection with Frances Ovington Dade. This person is from Janie Jane DADE WASHINGTON lineage.

I checked the Missouri death records between 1910-1959 for a Jane WASHINGTON. I came up with a Louisa Jane WASHINGTON. According to an Isaac and John WASHINGTON, Louisa was born in March of 1817 in KY.

Louisa Jane WASHINGTON's parents were an Isaac DADE from VA and a Frances unknown surname from KY. I saw the connection when I read the parents name. Another Frances OVINGTON DADE Connection.

However the year of Louisa's birth was a question. Isaac Dade was born around 1808. Frances or Frankie birth year was a question. Frances birth year between Dec 1799 to 1812. Most likely she was born about 1810 in KY.

Frances / Frankie OVINGTON DADE had 14 children.
So far I have come across...
On Frances' 4 known children's death records: The parents' names were Isaac DADE and Frances / Frankie. Charlotta's death record was the only one that mentioned Frances' maiden name as OVINGTON.

1
Louisa Jane Janie DADE WASHINGTON
Mar 1826 to 21 April 1910
KY / MO
She was married to David WASHINGTON.
and the mother of 13.

2
Mary Ann DADE MADISON
16 Nov 1836 to 24 Dec 1921
KY / MO
She was married to George MADISON.
and was the mother of 7.

3
Louis Newton DADE
16 Oct 1847 to 18 Feb 1937
MO / MO
He married Mary Ann Venoy.
and she was the mother of 11.

Charlotta DADE LANKFORD
Jan 1852 to 3 April 1924
MO / NY
She married Robert Louis LANKFORD.
and was the mother of 10 or 11.

Isaac DADE
1850-before 1880 is a question mark.
An Isaac married a Lue / Louisa ?
and Louisa was the mother of 6.

There were 10 other children unaccounted for.
Seven were living when the 1900 census was taken.
Frances OVINGTON DADE was listed as 101 on the 1900 MO census.
She had 14 children.

The Journey Continues On For...
