Annual Turkey Dinner: Host Mrs. Mary BELL Dade ~ Tradition

Mrs. Mary Bell Dade had her annual turkey dinner on Saturday, November 28, 1942. The dinner was held at her home in Canton, Lewis County Missouri. Her family and friends enjoyed her hospitality.

The snap shot photo of the newspaper clip was taken from the The Call Kansas City, Missouri. It  was published on Friday, December 11, 1942 on page 16. It was in the Canton, Missouri section.

Who is who in the newspaper clip?
I had to do some research to discover. I noticed that Mrs. Bell’s guest had family connections. When I first came across this Mrs. Bell Dade, I didn’t know which one she was. I think I know, now.

Mrs. Bell Dade: I thought she was either the sister or sister in law of Mr. Nora Den “Dennie” Dade. I think she’s more likely to be his sister. The other Mrs. Bell Dade was the sister in law who married Mr. Pearl Dade, who was Mr. Nora Den and Miss Mary Belle’s brother.

Mr. Pearl Dade divorced Mrs. Bell (Cotton) Dade in 1908. Mr. Nor Den, Miss Mary Bell and Mr. Pearl were the children of Mr. Louis Newton “Lew” Dade and Mrs. Mary Ann (Venoy) Dade. I don’t know much about Mrs. Bell (Cotten) Dade.

Mr. and Mrs. George Brown, Mrs. Mamie (Griffey) Brown. They had a daughter name Mrs, Joseph Range. ~ Mr. and Mrs. Joseph” “Joe” Range: Mrs, Lutie (Griffey) Range .

Lutie’s sister Mrs. Alice B. (Griffey) King’ had a son Mr. Barney Dewey King who married Miss Hazel Catherine (DADE) King. ~ Hazel was the daughter of Mr. Nora Den “Denie” Dade and Mrs. Loueta “Etta” (Robinson) Dade.

Ironically. Miss Mary Bell Dade had a daughter named Mrs. Catherine (Brown) Thompson who was the wife of Mr. George Thompson. Other news clips added Mrs. Bell Dade with her daughter Mrs. Catherine Thompson. ~ Bell was mentioned in the news papers as Miss Bell Dade when her children weren’t listed. Catherine’s father was a Mr. George Brown. Not sure if he’s the same person in this article.

Mr. and Mrs. Waddell Payton: Mrs, Lillie Belle (Cotman) Payton Beechmun.

Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey Nickerson.

Mr. Godfrey Nickerson and Mrs. Bertie (Sephus) Nickerson and their sons Mr. Ralph Nickerson and Mr. William Nickerson who was married to Mrs. Elizabeth (DADE) Nickerson Birditt. ~ Elizabeth was the daughter of Mr. Nora Den Dade and Mrs. Loueta “Etta” (Robinson) Dade. .

Lucille (Washington) Snively. was the daughter of Mrs. Berince (Majors) Washington Pleasant and Mr. Albert Washington. ~ Albert was the grandson of Mr. David Washington Sr, and Mrs. Louisa Janie (DADE) Washington.

Rev Thomas P. and Mrs Horde of the St. John’s A. M.C. Church in Canton, Missouri.
