Looking Into The Mystery Of Nymadula Lankford

Nymadula "Nym" Lankford was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on February 29, 1896. Nymadula was the youngest son of Charlotta Dade and Robert Louis Lankford.

There is little known of Nymadula. He lived in St. Joseph, MO, Denver Colorado, New York, New York... He married Hattie McDaniel who played in "Gone With The Wind". I have searched Hattie's obituary. She did marry a Nymadula Lankfard from St. Joseph, Missouri.

There's a book on Hattie by Jill Watts. Hattie McDaniel White Ambition. Nymadula was mentioned about 7 times. The year of their marriage was about 1918. How Nym met Hattie is still a mystery.

I searched the 1920 census. There was a Nymadula "Nym" Langford with a Nattie Langford from KS. It could be Hattie. On the Denver, Colorado director, Nym was living there in 1918. He was listed with Hattie in 1923.

In the book, Nym was married to another lady by the name of Irene. They had a daughter. In other words, Nym was married to two women.

Hattie filed for divorce. The marriage ended after 16 years. It was around 1937...Nymadula was believed remain living in NY. He remarried and had a daughter. I don't know when Nymadula died. I assume he passed away and was buried in NY. I haven't found out when he passed or where his remains was buried.

I'm still searching in The Mystery of Nymadula. Even his name....Where did his parents come up with this name? It sounds African.

According to the World War II draft registration, Nym was living in New York. He spelled his name as Nym Lankfard. There were times his surname was spelled Lankford. It could have been how people heard the Lankford name pronounced.

Here's a photo taken about the 1930's or early 1940's in New York, New York. Nymadula perhaps passed away during the early 1940's.
I haven't found his death record.

My Journey continues on the mystery of Nym Lankford...
Perhaps a descendant of Nym can fill in us in on this story.

According to this website Nym Langford died in 1922 due to a shooting. Records state that Hattie McDaniel married a George Langford in 1922. I don't know where this story came from. I don't think Nym and George were the same person. Hattie and Nym were married 16 years. They divorced in the 1930's.

What About My Aunts And Uncles By Marriage? Part 3 Rev. Aile J. Johnson

What I've discovered about Aile Johnson.

I always thought Alie name was Aile Johnson.
Through the search I've discovered it was Aile.
Aile was born on March 1891 in Mississippi.
Aile married Sarah Belle Lankford on January 14, 1953.

Aile passed away in November of 1967.
Below is the memorial service of Aile.

In additon: I've located an Aile on some census. One 1910 census.
Police Jury Ward 1 listed an Alie/Olie Johnson a black male about 19,
MS born lack male, single boarder home in 1910 Tangipahhoa, Louisiana.
He was listed as a block setter at lumber mill.

There was an Alic / Alie Johnson on the 1900 Census

Beat 4 Lowndes, MS Alie was about 6 years old, black male.
Son of Major and Lizzie Johnson

On the 1930 census Vernon, Madison, MS,
there was a Alie Johnson MS born about 1889.
He married to Minnie Johnson with three sons Aarnet, Ben and Lily A. Johnson.

There was an Aile L. Johnson who married Genelle Collins on Jan 7, 1941
Moberly, Randolph County in Missouri.

I wish I could have found more.
Rev. Uncle Aile Johnson was a traveling preacher.
I don't know for sure when he moved to St. Joseph, MO.
Perhaps in the 1940's.

Leaving A Legacy

I've been searching for my family history for over 30 years. I can't recall when I really got interesting in searching. Through the years of hearing stories from family members and relatives, I started to seek out more.

My major break through in my search came while I was on ancestry.com I discovered many documents year after year. I'm still searching with whatever resource that's out there.

There's so much to leave as a legacy in a family history. I hope that family members in my generation and the generations to come, will have a knowing of where we came from. We all have a family history. But will we be willing to search where our ancestors and relatives came from? Will we be willing to share?

It's been a journey. I have made a lot of progress over the years. I hope to discover more along my journey quest. And I hope others can add to the family history.

As I look back over my journey, I see that there were times when I hit a season on the journey when I don't find anything. Then there were times when a wellspring of information comes. I thank God for what I have come across and for what there to discover.

I can't take all the credit on what I've come across. There has been some who helped me along the way. I thank God for them. I hope that there are others will pick up where those before them left off.

May we all know that each of us are apart of a family history.
May we share what we know or heard about the family history.
May we all leave a legacy for the generations to come.

In the matter of Pension claim of Isaac Blakey (?) (word late) of Co H "6th" Mississippi Regt. NO 988.93

On THIS 15th day of Feb , A.D. 1899, personally appeared before me, a notary Public in and for the aforesaid county, and State, duly authorizes to administer oaths...Y.C. Blakey, aged 63 years, a resident of Salisbury in the County off Chariton and State of Missouri, whose Post Office address is Salisbury MO and....aged...years, a resident of....in the County of...and Stated of....whose Post Office address is...and who, being duly sworn, declares each for himself, in relation to aforesaid case as follows

...that he was acquainted with Isaac Blakey from the time that he was a small boy, up to the time of the breaking out of the war of the rebellion from 1861-1865, and his knowledge of him was on this wise, said Isaac Blakey the above named applicant belonged to his father's family and lived with them up to the time above spoken of and when he last saw him, he was at his (Y.C. Blakey's) Mother's house in Fayette, MO about the years 1857 to 1861, at which place he was staying at that time. afficant further states that Isaac Blakey had previously borne a good reputaiton as a slave he had no bad or viscious habits that he knew of and as far as he knows, he still bears a good reputation affiant states that the foregoing statements are made from personal knowledge of the facts stated.

Unusual Thing

One day I was listening to a daily radio talk show that was in Kansas City, MO. The topic for the day was on Is it Black American? or African American? It was a debate on which is appropriate.

I listened on as the two men were debating. They were disagreeing about some things. One made the point and said that some Blacks in American don't know where their ancestors came from. And for those are of Africa descend have lost connections with the "Mother Country."

At that time I could not see the big deal about what they were debating about. I am proud to be an American. Most of my ancestors came from Africa. I consider myself an American.

I have connection with Africa through my bloodline. But I have lost the traditions of the African culture. If I say that I am an African American, I am saying that I have Africa connections only.

I can say only some of my ancestors where from Africa. When my ancestors came to America, a new identity took place. African and their descendants had to adapt to new things in a new country.

Back to the radio debate.

Then as I was thinking as I was standing on this issue at hand, I had a thought come to me about my Great Grandpa Isaac's death record. He was listed as an African. I thought to my self, How could this be? He was born in Fayette or Roanoke, MO in June of 1847.

I had wondered about this for many years when I came across that information about my Great Grandpa. I continued to listen to the radio program. The two men where addressing why each preferred what they believe.

Then an Unusual Thing happened to me. As I was listening on to the radio program, out of nowhere, I heard a voice come to me, as I was thinking: how could my Great Grandpa have been an African born in MO? This "VOICE" said that "his parents were Africans."

I stopped what I was doing. I thought to myself "that makes sense." It made me feel good after I heard that voice. I did wondered about that "VOICE" later on.

What I had assumed by what the "VOICE" said that my Great Grandpa's parents where Africans or their parents were born in Africa. I have never thought that until that "VOICE" came to me.

Special Footnote:

At one time or another in our lives we have questionnaires or survey that when might have to answered. What is your race or nationality? Some of my American ancestors listed themselves as Blacks, Mulattoes, Negro or Colored. My parents listed themselves as Blacks; at times I seen the word colored.

I list myself under the category of Black American. There are other races that are connected with my bloodline. American Indian from all my Grandparents' sides.

My parents' parents were either listed as Blacks or Mulattoes. It was by word of mouth about the Indian blood. For some reason they acknowledge themselves as Blacks more so.

I am not ashamed of my family lineage. I can say that some of my ancestors could have been White. It was possible. I don't rule that out.

I am proud of who I am. I am a human being. I am one of God's creation. I am beautifully and wonderful made by Him.

Jeremiah 1:5 NLT "I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born I set apart and appointed you as my spokesman to the world."

On my journey of transformation.
When the unexpected comes, I have to stop and think and listen to the VOICE within. I need to see the good of what is there. I need not to get upset by what has happened. Everything is going to be all right. So wait on the LORD.

Father God, I am thankful for Your VOICE. I am thankful for unsolved FAMILY MYSTERY. I am thankful for the DOOR of HOPE that is always open.

I am thankful for the force of FAITH. I am thankful that I have Civil Rights. I am so thankful that I am a HUMAN BEING.

I am thankful for PROVISION for my life. I am thankful for those who have their HEALING from restored emotions. I am thankful for the DELIVERANCE of those once held captives by addictions.

I am thankful for those who were once blind but now see the SALVATION in Jesus Christ. I am thankful for SIGNS and WONDERS that are there for Your glory. I am thankful that I have a Book of Thanks and Blessings in Jesus' name Amen.

Grace was the first wife of Robert Lewis Lankfard Sr

Robert who the son of Leo and Mary (Allen) Lankford

Robert and Grace were married on December 22, 1940.

Grace was a housewife.
She was 22 years old at the time of her passing on June 20, 1941.
On Grace's death certificate her surname was spelled Langford.
Robt Lewis Langford was the informant on the death record.
Lewis Langford was listed as her husband.
They lived at 306 S. 22nd Street in St. Joseph, MO.

Charles Scott and Winnie Basset Scott.

Charles Scott was the son of William Scott.

Charles Holman Scott was born on Nov 15, 1859 in Columbia, MO.

Charles passed away on Dec 19, 1917 in Plattsburg, MO.

Winnie Basset Scott was the daughter of Andrew Basset from Colorado.

Winnie was born Feb 10, 1887 in Plattsburg Missouri.

She passed away on Feb 12, 1951 in St. Joseph, MO.

Charles Scott married Miss Winnie (Bagett) Basset
on April 22, 1877 in Clinton County Missouri

Charles and Winnie Basset Scott had three other daughters.
Gussie Scott, Sadie Scott and  Lucile Scott.

Happy Twenty Twelve!

It's a NEW Year to explore and discover things in life. I'm glad that I've discovered some things in Twenty Eleven. I plan to share some of the family history findings in the months to come. I'm thankful for those who have helped me a long the journey.

I hope to find more as this year comes. I'm still wondering about some things. The mystery of Anna Laura WASHINGTON ALLEN WALTERS. I can't locate her family in the 1900 census. I can assume that Anna and her children were not counted.

Also I can't locate Charlotte DADE who married Lewis Lankford  a.k.a. Robert L. Lankford / Lankfard.. I can't located Charlotta on the 1870 Census. She may have not been counted either.

I did come across some relatives through this blog site, ancestry.com and on facebook. I'm thankful for the additional information I have on the HENDRED and LYLE lineage. I found more on Ellen and George Hendred's children. Also information on Faris C. Lyle's wife Catherine STRANGE and children.

I set up some memorial sites for relatives and people I've come across in the areas where my relatives lived. I call it "Find A Grave: My Project" I'm adding as many as I can find. I even came across of grave sites of relatives.

Also I've been going back over what I've have. I see that I have over looked some things. I've added more.

My search continues.
I hope others can add some things as well.
