New Discoveries On Anna “Annie” / Sarah Lankford Johnson

I’ve been searching for a Mrs. Anna / Sarah (Lankford ) Johnson for decades. I haven’t had much luck in locating when and where she passed. I was assuming that she passed in Iowa because she was living with one of her daughters. I was surprised to discover that she passed in Kansas City, Missouri in September of 1912.

This new find came about after I started to search for Anna / Sarah’s children. This was what led me to her Missouri death certificate. The connection came from the address where her daughter Lena Sarah Johnson lived in 1914. She was living at 2610 1/2 Highland Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. . According to the 1910 Iowa census Anna Sarah was living with her daughter Nellie (Johnson) Drew.

Anna Sarah’s daughter Lena Sarah invited R. L. Lankford to her wedding in 1914 in Kansas City, Missouri. I was assuming that Robert Louis Lankford was related to her because her mother’s maiden name was Lankford. The crop news clip was published on page five of The Kansas City Sun Kansas City, Missouri  on Saturday, April 25, 1914. This was the list of out of town guests.

I was searching for Missouri death records of an Anna Johnson or Sarah Johnson in Jackson County. I came across a Sarah Ann Johnson. She was living at 2610 1/2 Highland in Kansas City Missouri. The informant was Lena Johnson. Bingo!

The address was the clue to who this Sarah Ann Johnson was. Lena was the daughter of Anna / Sarah Johnson. However, she recorded her mother’s name as Sarah Ann Johnson. The older Johnson children recorded their mother as Anna (Lankford / Langford) Johnson.

When Sylvester Norman Johnson passed in Iowa in 1948, the informant Wayne B. Brown M.D. recorded Sylvester’s mother as Anna Langford from Kentucky . His father was Wesley Johnson.

According to Lena (Johnson) Wilson. Sarah Ann’s father was Henry Robinson from Kentucky. Her mother’s first name was Susan. Susan’s maiden name was unknown.

What was Anna / Sarah real name? Not sure.
The wonder of how Anna / Sarah, Sarah / Anna , Miss “Annie” had the Lankford surname when she married Westley Johnson in 1871 in Lewis County Missouri. Her maiden name was Lankford. Her for name is still a mystery.

Recently, I discovered another obituary of my Great Grandfather Robert Louis Lankford. It stated that he had 5 sisters and 2 brothers living. in Kentucky. I’m wondering if Robert and Anna Sarah were siblings. I believe so.

I continue to search for surnames of Lankford / Langford in Kansas City, Missouri. I think Anna /. Sarah may have had siblings who were masons. One of the brothers lived on Highland Ave. Ironically, Robert Louis Lankford was a mason and he lived in Kansas City, Missouri about the same time. Hmmm!

I posted this blog on another site on   as Susan Ann Blakley
