Who Was Chas Langford? (1885 - 1937)

 CHAS LANGFORD
(1885 - 1937)
I came across this tombstone a while ago. I can't recall the year. Perhaps, it was between 1989 to 2000.  I was walking and looking for graves in the sections where my relatives were buried.  While I was there, I took photos of all the surnames of Lankford, Lankfard and Langford that I could find.

Back when I came across the above tombstone, I thought that he was a relative. I checked the Missouri Death records. I couldn't locate this Chas Langford.  But, as I came across more info, he didn't match up with my relatives.

Well, that was what I thought. Through years of searching, I stumbled across  more information in February 2016. This Chas Langford was related to my family.  But, it's ironic. There were some things on the tombstone that didn't match up.

How strange. I had forgotten all about this photo. It wasn't until the week I came across that info on Charles that this photo came to my thinking.  And I thought as I saw it again, This was Charles Edward Lankford / Lankfard's tombstone.  He was the son of Robert and Charlotta (DADE) LANFORD / LANKFARD.

Another mystery uncovered. I don't know why Charles' surname was spelled LANGFORD. He's birth year was incorrect. He was born in the year 1890. It was 5 years older according to the tombstone.

The only thing that I can think of....the informant on Charles' death info gave this info. I'm assuming that this person was Charles' 2nd wife whose name was Lula. The burial place was incorrect as well. Charles was buried in Ashland Cemetery in St. Joseph, Missouri not in  Greenville Cemetery.

I hope to find more on this Lula Langford. Now, I have another mystery.  I can't locate any more info on this Lula. It's strange. There were 2 other Lula Lankford's in this family. So many same name relatives.

Thanks for reading.

I shared some Mondays Mysteries. There are so many mysteries. Each clue I discover makes me think more.

I shared some of my Tuesdays Treasures. Every source I come across is a treasure. Thankful for the people who have added to family connections.

I shared some things about the life of Mrs. Anna Laura WASHINGTON WALTERS. I wish I could discover more on Anna's family lineage.  She had cousins living in St. Joseph.

I hope to share some of what I've discovered in 2015. I need to review the information that I have come across. There is so much that I have to update and make corrections.

I hope to find more family connections this year.  May the journey ahead be an adventure. May the Lord guide us along the way.

Happy Twenty Sixteen!

 Thanks for reading.

Update Info On The Children Of Jennie Bartlett Blakley Lyle

This is a repost with updates from The Jennie Bartlett Connections: The Blakleys and The Lyles

I was re thinking about my Grandma Jennie (Bartlett) Blakley Lyles's children.  She was my father's mother. What I know of her is what my mother's mother Mary (Allen) Lankford told my mother and my father shared with me. Jennie had 19 children.

I have been searching for records on the Blakley and Lyle / Lyles children. I have found documents on 17 of Jennie's children.  I had a thought. Maybe Jennie could have had 2 miscarriages.  My Grandma Mary and Grandma Jennie knew each other and they lived in the same area.

Here is what found out about Jennie's life through her children's births:

Here's a list of Jennie's children by John Blakey / Blakley:

John Blakley Sr. died 4 months after Jennie's last child was born.
Jennie had to raise her children.
Jennie remarried to Chilton Lyle year unknown perhaps in 1920.

Don't know the name or names of this child (ren).
There were two death records.
There was a single birth with different names and death date.

Dorothy  LYLE

April 27, 1920 to July 3 or 5, 1920

Sergeant Faris Chilton Lyle

Geneva Lyle Jones

Edgar Lyle
Oct 17, 1925  to April 16, 1926

I've came across the following assumptions and by other sources.
This is some of my thoughts:

In the beginning stages of my search,
I thought that Jennie may have eloped with John Blakey in MO.
Jennie was born in May of 1883 in Carrollton, Missouri.
She was the daughter of Elias and Harriett (Hooper) Bartlett.

John's family was from Chartion County MO area.
I don't know where or when John and Jennie met.
I did come across a John Blakely on a census in Carrollton, MO
I can assume that knew each other for a year are so... 1901 or 1900.
At some point in Jennie's life she, her mother and some of her siblings left Carrollton, MO.

John and Jennie ended up in St. Joseph, MO.
I can't pin point the year when they again their move.
Lucy Mossell, Jennie's half sister was in St. Joseph about 1900.

I came cross Jennie's and John's marriage record.
She married her first husband, John Blakey in April of 1902 in Excels Spring, MO.
John was listed as from Carrollton. Jennie was listed as from St. Joseph, MO.
Before the year was up Jennie's first child was stillborn in Nov 10, 1902 in St. Joseph, MO.

I can assume since Jennie had a half sister living in St. Joseph, that was why the family came. Perhaps that was why Jennie and John settled there too.
I discovered that Jennie's mother, Harriett
and siblings, Lucy, Sam , Juanita, came to St. Joseph, as well.
I came across two Sam Bartletts.
I don't know if they were related.

Grandma Jennie lived a short life.
She passed on December 26, 1926 at the age of 41.

As I was trying to piece together Jennie life through what my mother, father and what records
I have come across, I can pass on what I think and what I have discovered.

My mother said that Mrs. Blakley was a hard worker.
She was a small woman.
She died of a heart attack.

I haven't located an obituary on Jennie Lyle.
I can say that she was my Grandma.
She was a hard worker.
She left behind a husband, Chilton Lyle.
9 children, some siblings, nephews and nieces, cousins and a host of friends.

As for Jennie's children, some of the older Blakley siblings took care of some of the younger Blakleys. As for the Lyle / Lyles  two children, they went to an orphanage home for children on Lafayette Street in St. Joseph, MO.

Hope to come across more some day. Meanwhile...

Remembering Yankton October 31, 1981

I've been thinking about my journey to Yankton, South Dakota.  I can't forget it. I've learned more about my family connections over the years.

It's been 34 years since I met my Great Auntie Mary "Lovie" (KINNEY) BLAKEY. She was my Grandpa John BLAKEY / BLAKLEY's sister in law. Great Auntie Mary was my only Great Auntie that I remember meeting in person. That was the only time we've met.

On Saturday, October 31, 1981, I met some other relatives in Yankton. Some of Mary's grandchildren, Mary Jane and her husband James LIGHTNER and Mary Jane's sister Doris and some of their children.

It was a long journey getting there. I was glad, I made it. It was on this day that discovered who my Great Grandpa was. I thought his name was John Blakey. But his name was Isaac Blakey. Mary Jane had a photo of our Great Grandpa Isaac with his wife Rachel. I was amazed to see that photo. I wished I took a picture of it. Below is a photo of my Great Grandpa Isaac.

Private Isaac Blakey
(1845- 1917)

I was fascinated by all the things Great Aunt Mary and cousin, Mary Jane had been sharing with me through our corresponds over the years. As I look back, I'm thankful that I kept the letters that Mary Jane wrote me. I've been re reading them. There are some things I forgot about.

I've been searching more of the clues that Mary Jane spoke of in her letters. At that time, I didn't know what cousin Mary was speaking about. But, as I'm coming across more information, there are some things that are making some sense.

I thank God for all that I've encountered on my journey quest to know more about my family connections. I have come across a lot of relatives in the process. I hope to connect with more. If not in person, by internet. That's how I have been finding family connections.

Thanks for reading.

Family Connections And DNA

I sent off for my DNA kit from ancestry.com in 2014. I received me results on October 24, 2014.  I was waiting to see what region my ancestors came from. I was very surprised.

It's been a year since I took the test. I finally got in a DNA circle.  Our common ancestors are Andrew / Andre WHITE and Julia FINNEY.  So, far only 3 of us are in this circle.

I started out with about 63 possible matches. I'm up to 109 as of October24,  2015. In the beginning, there were a few I saw right off the bat. There were some common ancestors on our family tree. However none of these DNA matches are in my circle.

It's sad to see that most of the people who took the DNA test don't have family tree charts. And there are many searchers who have their family tree private. How can people make family connections when things are hidden?

I don't know why people who search for family history, but don't what to share what they know.  What's the point? I guess we all have our reason.

My reason is to find more about my ancestors. And to share what I have and what I have discovered along the way. I don't get it when people hide with they know. It couldn't be that bad.

The living people on family trees are hidden. Only those who have passed on are available to see. That would make sense.

Here are my results:  DNA Results took 23 days. I don't know how things work. I was a bit surprise on the America section.

   73 % African
   20%    Ivory Coast / Ghana
   18%    Cameroon / Congo
   13%    Nigeria
   13%    Senegal
   04%    Benin/Togo
   03%    Mali

   02%    Africa South-Central Hunter- Gatherers
   01%    Africa Southeastern Bantu

    0%    American
    0%    Native American

24% European
   12%    Great Britain
   07%    Europe West
   03%    Europe East
   01%    Italy / Greece
   01%    Scandinavian

    03% Other

   Pacific Islander (Less than)
   01% Polynesia

   West Asia  (Less than)
   01% Caucasus

I was surprised that there was no Native American in my family linage. That was want was passed down through the generations. It's makes me wonder.

On The 1870 census
Louis was listed with the name spelled Lewis Dade, age 23 MO born 1847.
Appeared living with parents, Isaac and Franky Dade.
His wife, Mary and their son Gilman born 1870.
Gilman could have been Japlin G? year of birth 1866.
I couldn't find Japin on the 1870 census.
