Family Connections' 7th Anniversary: Journey Continues

What was the first title of my first blog on Family Connections? It was In the beginning . I've come a long way since my first post.  Indeed, I have.

I think, I've discovered more than I thought I would over the 7 years. This month alone, I came across some interesting things. I can't share them all. But, I plan to blog on some of things I've stumbled upon.

I've made some changes over the years. I had to divided how I posted my family connections. I've found so many people to add to my family tree. I thought, if others in my family are searching, they wouldn't know which family was which.

If you think about it. we have some much in our family history. We can only share what we think is interesting. Everything that we discover has some value in itself. We have to realize that.

Each one of us have stories to tell and stories to share. Yes we can omit what we don't what others to know about. Or we can share what we know, in a way that it can bring more beauty to our family history.

I've come across information. I'm wondering, how I should share.  All families have their pain and struggles. Everything that our ancestors and relatives went through is important. They were humans too. We can only imagine how they have lived.

I know that there are things that shouldn't be told. It's a matter of personal taste, timing to release confidential info. Especially for those who are still living. We should respect others' privacy.

I've found some relatives through this blog and many on the world wide web.  I hope others will search for their long lost relatives too. I believe that there are many who are searching. I hope you make your family connections.

For those who are searching for your roots and family.
May you continue to keep searching.
May you believe that there is more out there.
May you learn to share what you have discovered with good judgment.
Amen!

The more you want to know, the more you will want to search.
I've been searching for over 40 years.
I'm making more discoveries as I keep searching.
I believe that there's more out there to be discovered.
Happy Searching!

Thanks for reading.

Making More Discoveries On The World Wide Web: My Family Connections

Ever since I made the connection with the internet, I started searching for the things I like. I grow in understanding some things. I was drawn to know more about my family history.

In the beginning as I keep finding things on my family history, I was led to a website. At first, I didn't want to try it. But, I decided take a step to further my research.

I became a member of  Ancestry.com on June 20, 2007. They offered a 14 day trail run. I went for it. And I got hooked.

I was on this site every day. I  began to find more on my family tree. Through the years, I built my family connections. I continue to search and find new clues.

I know it costs to be on ancestry.com. If you're wanting to find your family connections, you have to pay for it. Also it's good to share what you know with others.

There are a lot of private family tree on ancestry.com. I'm thankful for the ones that are made public. There should be anything to hide when family members have gone on. That's public info.

I know that there are free website to search for family connections. I use them too. We need a variety of sources to make our family history complete.  We need people to share what they know.

May we not be afraid to share what we know about our family connections.
May we build our family history.
May we persevere what we know about our ancestors for future generations.
Amen.

Thanks for reading.

Thinking About My Great Grandmother Anna Walters

My Great Grandmother Anna Laura (Washington) Allen Walters was born on June 13, 1867 in St. Joseph, Missouri.  She was the daughter of  former slaves, William / John Washington and Susan (Leach) Washington. Anna was the widow of William / Robert Allen and Thornton Walters. She was the mother of Mary (Allen) Lankford / Lankfard, Mary / Bonita (Walters) Nelson and Joseph Walters.

It’s been a challenge to discover info on Anna’s parents, siblings and relatives. According to Anna’s obituary she had cousins. I continue to search for leads.  I haven’t gotten far.

I’m assuming Anna’s cousins were on her father’s side. I came across many Washingtons in the city where they lived during the 1870’s to 1920’s. It’s hard to figure out who was related.

It’s strange how things come about in life. If we don’t keep in touch, we can lose track of relatives.  If we don’t tell others that we are related, we will never know. It’s good to keep know and keep in contact with relatives.

It’s good to pass on info on who’s who in the family. Things can get lost through the generations. I’m finding out that the DNA testing is a good source to use. I’m finding relatives that way too. I pray that others will make some connections.

I’ve notice that while searching for my ancestors, it has opening me up. It makes me what to know more. I can think about them.  I wonder what happened to them. Where they did ended up?  Did they have off springs.

May we continue to have some wonder about our ancestors.
May we see the good in life as we grow in wisdom.
Amen!

Thanks for reading.
