Jennie Bartlett Lyles and Mary Anna Lankford: Friends

My mother, Lula mentioned to me that her mother, Mary Anna Lankford and Jennie Blakley Lyles were friends. Later, I discovered that Mary and Jennie were neighbors. I could only imagine that their children grew up together and attended the same school.

I began to search the city directories to see where the early Blakleys / Lyles and Lankfords were living. around the 1900’s to the teen years. I noticed that they lived not to far from one another. I wondered, when could they have met?

As I searched the directories and located where the Blakleys and Lankfords were living in 1911. The Blakleys lived at 751 S 28th Street. The Lankfords were living at 2722 Mary Street. That’s about less than six houses a part from the next block. They could have met then.

Where did the early Blakleys and Lankfords come from?

Jennie Bartlett was born in Carrollton, Missouri in May of 1883 while her husband John Blakey Blakley was born in Woodville Mississippi on June 21, 1871 with his twin Andrew Blakey. Jennie was in St. Joseph, Missouri around 1902. And after Jennie married John, he came to St. Joseph from Carrollton, Missouri in 1902.

Mary Anna Allen was born in St. Joseph on December 21, 1889 while her husband Leo Lankford / Lankfard Sr. was born in Canton, Missouri on May 31,1884. Leo Sr. made his way to St. Joseph with his family when he was about 4 years old. I’m not for sure if Leo was paralyzed on the left side of his body before or after coming to St. Joseph.

What my mother mentioned to me about what her mother told her about Mrs. Blakley?

Mrs.. Blakley was a hard worker.
Mrs. Blakley looked like Mrs. Iona Mae Hedge.
Mrs. Blakley had 19 children.

Jennie’s husband John left and moved to South Dakota.
He was very sick and had to move northward. That was where his siblings were living.
It was more likely John moved to northward and didn’t want his family to catch what he had.
John passed on July 10, 1918 in a covered wagon near his brother Henry Blakey Sr’.s home.
Jennie marred Chelton Lyles in 1920 in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Mrs. Blakley called for her daughter, Mary Jane to come as she was dying.
Mary Jane didn’t make it in time before her mother passed.
Jennie Bartlett Lyles passed on Wednesday, December 29, 1926.

I’m not sure if Jennie would have known that she would become in laws with Mary.
A few years after Jennie passing, her son Isaac Blakley would marry Anna Charlotte in 1928 who was Mary’s first born. And Lula, Mary’s daughter would marry David Blakley, Jennie’s son in 1937.

As for Mary, she was giving the honor to see Jennie’s sons come apart of the Lankford / Lankfard family. Mary and Jennie shared 21 Blakley grandchildren and their off springs. Mary passed in November 7, 1975. Mary’s husband Leo Sr. passed on September 14, 1954.

News of Mrs. Chilton Lyles’ Birth of Her 18th Child

There is so much I can get out of this birth announcement. Mrs. Chilton Lyles was Mrs. Jennie (Bartlett) Blakley Lyles. Her son was born on October 15, 1925. He would be named Edgar Bartlett Lyle. Sadly to say, Edgar passed on April 16, 1926. He was about 6 months old.

Birth announcement in The St. Joseph Observer : St. Joseph, Missouri • Fri, Oct 23, 1925 Page 5

Mr. Chilton Lyle was Jennie’s second husband. They had at least five children together.

Twin daughters, Dorris Lyle and Dorothy Lyle were born on April 27, 1920. Sadly to say, they passed less than 3 months old: at two days apart on July 3rd and July 5, 1920. They were buried together.

The only two Lyle children who made it to adulthood:

Sergeant Faris Chilton Lyle (1923 – 2008) ~ He married and was the father of 7.
Geneva (Lyle) Jones (1924 – 2005) ~ She was married and was the mother of 7.

Jennie’s second husband, Chilton Lyles was born in Kansas about 1869.
He was the son of free people of color.

Jennie’s first husband was John Blakey Blakley Sr. (1871 – 1918) . They had 12 children together.

Their Baby Girl Blakey was still born on November 10, 1902.
There were four daughters and a son who passed with in a year of their births.

Edna Blakley (1903 – 1904) ~ She was 11 months old.
Cecil BLAKEY (1908 – 1909) ~ She was about 3 months old.

Juanita BLAKEY (1910 -1910) ~ She was about 3 months old.
Baby Boy Blakley (1917 – 1918) ~ He passed 3 days before his first birthday.

Jennie’s husband John who was born June 21, 1871 with a twin Andrew. John passed four months after Baby Boy Blakley on July 10, 1918. John was one of 20. His father, Private Isaac Blakey married twice.

As for the other Blakley children who made it to their adulthood.

Pastor John Henry Blakley Jr. (1905 – 1975) ~ He married twice and had step children.
Isaac “Ike” Blakley (1906 1980) ~ He married and had two sons.

Paul Blakley (1907 – 1946) ~ He was married and had step children.
Mary Jane Blakley Richardson (1911 – 2001) ~ She married and adopted two daughters.

Rev Orbrey Pearson Blakley(1912 – 1943) ~ He never married and had no children.
David William Blakley Sr. (1913 – 1989) ~ He married and had 19 children.

Hazel “Bush” Blakley was born in 1915 and she passed at age 18 with child in 1933.

According to what my mother, Lula, she shared with me, “Mrs. (Jennie) Blakley had 19 children.” This is according to what my mother’s mother Mary Allen Lankford / Lankfard told her. Could it have been, Jennie had another child before she passed?

Who was Jennie Lyles?
She was my father, David’s mother. Jennie was born in 1883 to Elias W. Bartlett Sr. and Harriet (Hooper) Bartlett. She was one of 14. And her first name could have been Geneva. She passed on December 29, 1926 at the age of 43. The surname Lyle was spelled Lyles at times.

Strong Woman: Jennie (Bartlett) Lyles

When I was going through my pedigree chart, I was searching for strong women on my lineage. There are many.  I’m thankful that God birth me into a lineage of strong women.

My Grandmother, Jennie (Bartlett ) Lyles was a strong woman. She was born May of 1883 in Carrollton, Missouri.  She was a the daughter of former slaves,  Elias W. Bartlett Sr.  and Harriet Buffington / Hooper Bartlett. She married John Blakey / Blakley Sr. in 1902  and Chelton Lyles in 1920.

What I have discovered about my Grandmother, Jennie?

She was a housewife, a  laundress / wash woman. She bore 18 children. Her first child was stillborn was on Nov 10, 1902. Eight of her children died before adolescence and some who passed before they were 6 months old.

Jennie was 43 years old when she passed in 1926. Her passing was eight months after her son, Edgar Bartlett Lyle passed on April 16, 1926. Edgar was one day shy of  being 6 months  old.

Jennie and my other Grandmother, Mary were friends. They lived near one another. My mother. Lula  told me that Mrs. Blakley was a hard working woman. Jennie’s first husband, John become sick. He was planning to move his family to South Dakota. However, he  later passed in Yankton, South Dakota July of 1918.

Jennie cared for her seven children before her first husband passed. She remarried about two years later. Jennie had twin daughters who passed two days a part in July of 1920. They were less than 3 months old. She would have 5 children by her husband, Chilton.

Jennie had to have been a strong woman. She keep going physically, mentally and emotionally. Through loss of her infant children and her first  husband,  she keep going. Sadly she passed at  in her early  40’s  on  Dec 29, 1926.  She was survived by her widow, 10 children, siblings and nephews and nieces.

I post this on one of my other sites.

Thanks for reading.

John And Jennie (Bartlett) Blakley: The Two Became One: But, What Were Their Surnames When They married?

My father's parents, John and Jennie Blakley were married on July 28, 1902 in Excelsior Springs, Clay County in Missouri. However, it wasn't until the latter part of May of 2009 when I solved this family mystery. But, once I stumbled across this info, it led me to more questions.

I always thought that my Grandpa John's surname was BLAKLEY.  But, through the years, I found out it was BLAKEY. However, on the marriage record it was spelled BLAKYE. As for my Grandma Jennie, her surname was BARTLETT, but it was spelled BARTEL on the record.  I could assume that the E and the Y were turned around for BLAKEY. But for Bartel, it makes me wonder.

According to this record, John was from Carrolton, Carroll County Missouri. Jennie was listed from St. Joseph, Buchanan County Missouri. I can assume that John married with the Blakey surname. But, the mystery remains. Why did John change his name to BLAKLEY?

I searched the birth records of the BLAKLEY or BLAKEY children born in St. Joseph MO. Out of all the children listed there were two with the BLAKEY surname and the others were BLAKLEY. The surname was changed after John and Jennie married July of 1902. I can't pin point the year.

As for the BLAKLEY surname: The story goes that there were a lot of John BLAKEYs relatives. Perhaps there was confusion and was one of the reason why my Grandfather John changed his last name. John's descendants carried the surname of BLAKLEY.

Whatever the case may have been, the surname was changed from Blakey to Blakley. My father and his siblings were taught to spell our surname the way I spell mine. My name has been established. I have no reason to change the spelling now.

But, still I wonder about my Grandma Jennie's surname on the marriage license. Could the family surname had been Bartle? Or was it changed to Bartlett?  This marriage record was the only record with that spelling. This remains a mystery.

My Grandfather full name was John BLAKEY / BLAKLEY Sr.  When he passed in 1918, his siblings recorded John's surname as BLAKEY. My Grandmother's full name was Jennie BARTLETT  BLAKEY / BLAKLEY LYLE. She passed with the surname LYLE.

God Bless you.

Update Info On The Children Of Jennie Bartlett Blakley Lyle

This is a repost with updates from The Jennie Bartlett Connections: The Blakleys and The Lyles

I was re thinking about my Grandma Jennie (Bartlett) Blakley Lyles's children.  She was my father's mother. What I know of her is what my mother's mother Mary (Allen) Lankford told my mother and my father shared with me. Jennie had 19 children.

I have been searching for records on the Blakley and Lyle / Lyles children. I have found documents on 17 of Jennie's children.  I had a thought. Maybe Jennie could have had 2 miscarriages.  My Grandma Mary and Grandma Jennie knew each other and they lived in the same area.

Here is what found out about Jennie's life through her children's births:

Here's a list of Jennie's children by John Blakey / Blakley:

I've came across the following assumptions and by other sources.
This is some of my thoughts:

In the beginning stages of my search,
I thought that Jennie may have eloped with John Blakey in MO.
Jennie was born in May of 1883 in Carrollton, Missouri.
She was the daughter of Elias and Harriett (Hooper) Bartlett.

John's family was from Chartion County MO area.
I don't know where or when John and Jennie met.
I did come across a John Blakely on a census in Carrollton, MO
I can assume that knew each other for a year are so... 1901 or 1900.
At some point in Jennie's life she, her mother and some of her siblings left Carrollton, MO.

John and Jennie ended up in St. Joseph, MO.
I can't pin point the year when they again their move.
Lucy Mossell, Jennie's half sister was in St. Joseph about 1900.

I came cross Jennie's and John's marriage record.
She married her first husband, John Blakey in April of 1902 in Excels Spring, MO.
John was listed as from Carrollton. Jennie was listed as from St. Joseph, MO.
Before the year was up Jennie's first child was stillborn in Nov 10, 1902 in St. Joseph, MO.

I can assume since Jennie had a half sister living in St. Joseph, that was why the family came. Perhaps that was why Jennie and John settled there too.
I discovered that Jennie's mother, Harriett
and siblings, Lucy, Sam , Juanita, came to St. Joseph, as well.
I came across two Sam Bartletts.
I don't know if they were related.

Grandma Jennie lived a short life.
She passed on December 26, 1926 at the age of 41.

As I was trying to piece together Jennie life through what my mother, father and what records
I have come across, I can pass on what I think and what I have discovered.

My mother said that Mrs. Blakley was a hard worker.
She was a small woman.
She died of a heart attack.

I haven't located an obituary on Jennie Lyle.
I can say that she was my Grandma.
She was a hard worker.
She left behind a husband, Chilton Lyle.
9 children, some siblings, nephews and nieces, cousins and a host of friends.

As for Jennie's children, some of the older Blakley siblings took care of some of the younger Blakleys. As for the Lyle / Lyles  two children, they went to an orphanage home for children on Lafayette Street in St. Joseph, MO.

Hope to come across more some day. Meanwhile...

Treasures: Jennie / Geneva (Bartlett) Blakley Lyles

Entry date: June 27, 1981

Notes: Grandmother on father's side... said to have died at age 41 years old. She had a number of children (20). Some were twins which died at birth.  She (Jennie) had to work odd jobs...to care for her family.

I've done some research on my Grandma Jennie.
I have searched the censuses, city directories, children's birth and death records and so forth. I was trying to find documents of Jennie's children. Here's some info I have discovered over the years. She came from a large family.

She went by Jennie. But, I have seen a few records mentioning her as Jeneva / Geneva. She was believe to have been born in May of 1883 to Elias and Harriett Bartlett in Carrolton, Missouri.  Her first husband was John Blakey / Blakley. They were married from 1902 to 1918.

Jennie became a widow. Her 2nd husband was Chilton Lyle / Lyles. They were married from 1920 - 1926. Jennie passed in December 29, 1926 at the age of 43.

My mother's mother Mary was a friend of Jennie. They were neighbors. Their children went to school together. And two of Mary's daughters would married into the Blakley family. From what my mother told me; from what her mother told her; Mrs. Blakley (Lyles) had 20 children.

I have come across records of all but three of her children. Jennie did have twin daughters. Some of Jennie's children died as infants. Only one known stillborn daughter.  Here's the order of birth of Jennie's children with the surnames spelled on birth or death records.

Children born from 1902 to 1917
  Father: John Blakey / Blakley
 1.  Stillborn girl Blakey
 2.  Edna Blakley

 3.  John Blakley Jr.
 4.  Isaac Blakley
 5.
Paul Blakley

 6.  Cecil Blakey  (female)
 7.  Juanita / Wanita Blakey

 8.  Mary Jane (Blakley) Richardson
 9.  Olbery Pierson Blakley
10. David W. Blakley

11. Hazel V. Blakley
12. Baby Boy Blakley

Children born 1920 - 1925
Father: Chilton Lyle / Lyles
13 Doris LYLES
14. Dorothy LYLES (Twin of Doris)

15 Faris Chilton LYLE
16. Geneva (LYLE)  Jones
17. Edgar LYLE

I was thinking.
I believe that my Grandmother Jennie did have 20 children. And that she told my Grandmother Mary... It could have been that Jennie had miscarriages. Or her 3 other children's death wasn't recorded.

(I found some of Jennie's children's birth or death recorded before 1909. I checked the index for births and death before 1909 at the city library.... )

It's sad to see that only 9 of Jennie's children lived to be at least 18. The others 11 lived less than a year:  from a stillborn, two days old, 6 to 11 months.

Jennie's child who lived the longest was Mary Blakley Richardson at age 89. She passed 2 months before her 90th birthday in 2001. Jennie's last surviving child, Faris C. Lyle lived to be 84. He passed on Feb 1, 2008.

In Remembrance of my Grandmother Jennie.

My Father's Step Father, Chilton Lyles

In Remembrance of Chilton Lyles: My Step-Grandpa

Tuesday's Treasure:
This entry was  dated on  April 28, 1980. And on this day, I was speaking with my father. He was sharing  with me some things about his step father, Chilton Lyles.

My dad said, Mr. Lyles was from Troy, Kansas. And that his mother, (my father's mother, Jennie (Bartlett) Blakley Lyles) and his step father lived in the house where  my father's brother in law, Addison "Ad" Lankford use to live. It was a green house on Locust.

Mr. Lyles had some chickens etc...people stole some of them. The Lyles lived where the old Sears and Roebuck store use to be. My father's mother passed in her home. Mr. Lyles died on his farm in Troy, Kansas.
===========================================
Some research: The Chilton Lyles Family Connections
===========================================
I've been searching for info on Chilton Lyles. In the beginning, I couldn't find much on him. But, through the years, I've been coming across some things. According to the censuses, city directories and the Lyles children's' birth and or death records, I can assume the following.

Chilton Lyle was born about 1874 in Missouri. Another source states he was born about 1884. Another source states he was born in Kansas.  As I was searching, I noticed that his first name was spelled three ways; Chelton, Clinton or Chilton.

I believe he spelled his name Chilton. As for his surname it was spelled LYLE and LYLES. But, I'm not for sure which was the correct spelling.  I have come across his surname spelled as LYLES than LYLE.
This is Chelton / Chilton LYLES' name. I'm not for sure if it's his signature.
I don't know when Chilton married Jennie (Bartlett) Blakley. It could have been about 1919 or 1920. My father was about 7 or 8.  Jennie passed on in 1926. I have not located Chilton's death record. The last time he was listed in   Troy, Kansas' City directory on March 1, 1948. Perhaps 1948  or 1949 was the year he passed.
When Chilton passed away, my father said Mr. Lyles had a will. He left one of his guns to my father. However, he never received it.

I'm not for sure where Mr. Lyles  was laid to rest. He could have been buried in Troy, KS, Wathena, Kansas or White Cloud, Kansas. On the 1940 census he was living in Center, Doniphan, Kansas. Chilton was listed as single and was unable to work.

I'm not for sure, but I may have come across Chilton listed with his father, siblings or sons with the LYLES surname. I came across a Chilton LYLES with others in the same house in St. Joseph, Missouri as F. Chilton LYLES, Isaac LYLES,  and John LYLES. On another city directory, there was a Chilton LYLES,  Farris LYLES, Gilbert LYLES and John LYLES in the same household in Kansas City.

I hope to find more clues on my Lyles Family Connections. Also, I need to update some of my findings on  the Jennie (Bartlett) Blakley Lyles Family Connection. I have made some more discoveries.  I've over looked . My journey continues.

Mystery Of Chilton and Jennie Lyle

This blog is for the descendants of Chilton Lyle and Jennie Bartlett Lyle. Hope you find this blog interesting. Connections with the missing pieces to the puzzle. I was going to post this at another date. I think now is the now....

I've had been searching for Chilton Lyle for some time. On, 15 November 2010, I finally come across some things. I thought that Step Grandpa Lyles name was Chelton or Clinton Lyles. I came across this information for his wife, Jennie's death record. Jennie ( Bartlett) Blakley Lyles was my grandma.

I did some Missouri death record searches. I came up with the surname spelled LYLE and LYLES. Chilton and Jennie had at least 4 children. Two of their children passed away as infants. Doris or Dorthy Lyle passed in 1920 and Edgar Lyles in 1926 in St. Joseph, Missouri.

I believe that I've located Chilton Lyle on the 1920 census. He was in the___ Hospital No 2 in St. Joseph, MO. I haven't come across Jennie's and Chilton's marriage record. I can assume that they were married some time between Jan to April of 1920.

According to the 1920 census record, Chilton Lyles was born about 1874. He was a farm hand. His place of birth was in the United States. According to one of his children's death record he stated his birth place as Missouri. Jennie didn't know. She stated that Chliton's place of birth was unknown.

Jennie had at least 4 children by Chilton. There was a question of Doris and Dorthy. There were two death records with two names but every thing else was the same. I don't believe that they were twins. Records state single birth.

I lost track of Chilton after Jennie's pass away in December of 1926. On Jennie's death record her husband's name was spelled Chelton Lyles. I tried to track his two children

Faris Chilton Lyle

Geneva Lyle Jones
On the 1930 census Chilton's two children were listed with someone else. It appeared to be a place for children without parents. In 1935 Faris was listed in New York.

I recall looking at St. Joseph, Missouri city directories, I saw that Jennie Lyle lived in a different house then Chilton Lyle. I heard that some of Jennie's children didn't like Old man Lyle. My father did. I heard that Step Grandpa Chilton was a witness to my parents marriage in Troy, Kansas.

From what I recall from my father, David Blakley, Old man Lyle lived in Kansas. He was living with a woman in the 1940's. When Chilton passed away, my father said the he was willed one of Chilton's guns. I haven't found Chilton Lyle / Lyles death record.

I believe that there is more on Chilton Lyle.
Hoping more information will come up.
My search continues..

The Jennie Bartlett Connections: The Blakleys and The Lyles

I was thinking about my Grandma Jennie Bartlett Blakley Lyles's children. Grandma Jennie's life wasn't long. She passed away on December 26, 1926 at the age of 41. She was said to have had about 17 or 19 children. I was trying to piece together Jennie life through what I know about her.

My mother's mother Mary Allen Lankford told my mother, Lula that Grandma Jennie had 19 children. I have search records and found 17 of them. I've tried to piece together Jennie's life as when her children were born.

Jennie was born in May of 1883 in Carrollton, Missouri. She was the daughter of Elias and Harriett Hooper Bartlett. At some point in Jennie's life she, her mother and some of her siblings left Carrollton, MO. They ended up in St. Joseph, MO. I can't pin point the year when they again their move. Lucy Mossell, Jennie's half sister was in St. Joseph in 1900.

In the beginning stages of my search, I thought that Jennie may have eloped with John Blakey in MO.  John's family was from Chartion County MO area. I don't know where John and Jennie met. I can assume that knew each other for a year are so... 1901 or 1900

I came cross Jennie's marriage record. She married her first husband, John Blakey in April of 1902 in Excels Spring, MO. Before the year was up Jennie's first child was stillborn in Nov 1902.

I can assume since Jennie had a half sister living in St. Joseph, that was why the family came. Perhaps that was why Jennie and John settled there too. I see that Jennie's mother, Harriette and siblings, Lucy, Paul, Waneta came to St. Joseph, as well. I came across two Sam Barletts. Don't know if they were related.

Here is what I can assume of Jennie through her children's births:

My mother told me that Jennie worked very hard.
She was a small woman. She died of a heart attack on Dec 26, 1926.
She left behind a husband, 9 children.
And some siblings.

As for Jennie's children, some of the older Blakley siblings took care of some of the younger Blakleys. As for the Lyle two children, they went to an orphanage home for children on Lafayette Street in St. Joseph, MO.

Hope to come across more some day.

Awareness Of Some Things

In October of 2009, I was searching for my family history. I was aware of something for the first time. It was like something new to me. But it's been there all along.

I was doing some research on my father's mother's side. A thought come to me. Here's what I came up with.

My Grandma Jennie BARTLETT ( 1883 -1926) had about 6 half siblings born into slavery. Her father, Elais W. BARTLETT Sr. He was born about 1822. He remarried to his second wife, Harriet HOOPER ( 1849 -1909).

They were married for about 25 year and had about 6 children. Elais had other children with his first wife Rachel. All but one was born into slavery.

I was thinking about my great aunts and great uncles. In 1981, I met my Great Aunt Mary. She was my Grandpa John's sister in law. Great Aunt Mary was born in 1894. She was about 89 when we met.

When we think of Grandparents and Great Aunts and Great Uncles, we can get the thought of them being up in age. I mean the type of mind set of an elderly person. How old is old to be an aunt, an uncle, a parent or a grandparent ?

I know of some people who become grandparents in their 40's and some in their 30's. As for being a great aunt, I've been one since I was about 23.

It's in how we look that things. I didn't know how I didn't see that some of my Grandma Jennie's sibling were slaves. Oh, well. I'm glad that it came to my awareness. What more will I come across?

My Father's Mother

Jennie (Bartlett) Lyles (1883 -1926.)
She lived to about 41 or 42 years.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have been doing some thinking about the life of my Grandma Jennie. After compiling information, I have come across some things that I have not seen before.

I can make the assumption of what may have happened in her life.

I have been searching birth and death records. I have come across some last month.
I have heard the story that my mother told me. My mother got this from her mother.

Both my father's mother Jennie and my mother's mother Mary were friends. They did not live to far from each other. Their kids knew each other. Grandmother Jennie was said to have had 19 children. I have come across 8 or 9 of her children's death records who died as infants.

On my exploration through the vital records,
I have discovered 12 children from my Grandma Jennie's first marriage with Grandpa John Blakey.

There were about 4 or 5 in her second marriage with Grandpa Chelton Lyles.

Grandma Jennie was born perhaps in May of 1883 in Carrollton, Mo to Elais W. Bartlett Sr.(born ca 1822 - ? ) and Harriett Hooper (1949-1909.)

Grandma Jennie came from a large family. Great Grandpa Elais was the father of about 9 children:

William, Warren, John, Fanny, Lena, Harriet, Sally, Charles and Lucy
during his first marriage to Rachel (1859 - ?). I believe that there could have been more children born between 1870 - 1878.

There were 5 other children Elais W. Jr, Sam, Jennie , Paul and Juanita by my Great Grandma Harriett Hooper ( 1854 - 1909 ). I believe that there could have been other children 1880 -1892.

I have not come across my Grandparents' marriage record. I can assume that Grandma Jennie and Grandpa John met in Carrollton, MO around the turn of the century. Grandpa John's father, Isaac Blakey came for Howard and Chariton County in MO.

The first record that I have come across my Grandparents together is on a death record. There was a still born female child recorded on November 10, 1902 in St. Joseph Mo. I have located records of 12 children born between 1902 - 1917.

Still born female, Edna, John R Jr., Isaac, Paul, Cecil, Juanita, Mary Jane,
(Rev) Olbery Pierson, David W., Hazel, and Baby BLakley. Only 7 lived to be adults.

I have been trying to piece together the puzzle. On June 27, I came across a death record. I looked at an unknown baby death with our family surname. The parents names of this child were my Grandparents.

I found this to be so interesting.
This baby died three months before my Grandpa John died in July of 1918.
This child was 11 months old without a name. I thought that that was odd.
Grandpa John was the informant.

I am still wondering about the story that my mother told me.
Grandpa John was said to have left his wife and moved north.
I can assume that Grandpa's sickness was so bad that he could not live in his area.
Nor did he want to get his family sick. The air up north may have been better for him.

This meant that Grandma Jennie was raised her 7 children. She had family in town.
Grandma Jennie was about 34 or 35 when she became a widow.

Grandma Jennie later remarried to Grandpa Chelton F. Lyles. I cannot locate their marriage record in MO. I have search if they had children. They had about 4 or 5 children.

Dorothy, Davis, F. Chelton, Geniva, and Edgar. Only 2 lived to be adults. This children were born between 1920 - 1925.

What I mean by 4 or 5 children. I came across two death records with two different names, Davis and Dorothy. Two different death dates July 3, 1920 and July 5, 1920.

Could Dorothy and Davis have been twins? Davis was listed as a female. Grandma Jennie was said to have had twins. This is the only records that could have been.

Grandma Jennie gave birth to a baby boy Edgar in 1925. He died April 16, 1926. It would be 8 months later Grandma Jennie passed on December 29, 1926.

What my mother told me according to my mother's mother Grandma Jennie was a hard worker. Grandma Jennie died of a heart attack. She passed leaving a husband and 9 children.

I have wondered about the stories that my parent shared with me. It's what my parents knew about their ancestors that got me to thinking. I still wonder. Is there more that I can find out?

I was fascinated by what my parents shared with me. Now, as I have been searching,
I have been seeing some of what they said. The clues to the puzzle is being put into place.

I am thankful that I have a family history.
I am thankful that I am in the family of God.
I am thankful that I have a family bloodline.

I am thankful for the goodness of God.
I am thankful for good treasures.
I am thankful that God grants me understanding.
