In Loving Memory of Delilah Lewis

Mrs. Delilah Lewis was born into slavery in May of 1773 in Franklin, Williamson County in Tennessee. She was moved to Kentucky where she was raised. Her parents are unknown. They were perhaps born in KY or TN. At some time, she was removed to Franklin, Missouri or Franklin Tennessee.

She was moved to Liberty, Clay County Missouri where she was sold to Prestley Edwards. She was with him for about twenty five to thirty years. Delilah was hired out to William Lane for 10 years.

In 1861, Delilah was moved with Peyton Townsend to Saline County in Missouri. She remain there after the rebellion of the Civil War.

In 1878, she moved to St. Joseph, Missouri, where she lived with her daughter, Susan Leach Washington, her son in law, William Washington at 1801 Mulberry Street. Delilah passed on April 19, 1887 at the Washington's residence at the age of 113.

Delilah was a member of the Baptist Church for 50 years, since 1837.
She was a servant of the LORD.

In her obituary here are the last words....
...."and when the death angel came, she was still in the service of the Lord.

Far from the world of toil and strife
She is present with the Lord
The labor of her mortal life
Ends in a large reward."

Delilah was buried on April 24, 1887 in Mount Mora Cemetery.

Stumbling Across More Family Connections

Welcome!

I continue to search whatever resources that I can. I've been searching old newspaper articles. I have found some photos of relatives. There were birth announcements, obituaries, cards of thanks, marriage and divorce filed. Every little info adds to the family history.

I wish all the best in the 2nd quarter of 2019.
Thanks for reading.
God Bless you.

I came across another DNA cousin. This cousin is on the Benjamin DADE Family Connections. Benjamin, son of Isaac and Frances (OVRINGTO) DADE. Ben and Lucy had a daughter named Martha (DADE) CARTER. She  married Lewis CARTER. They had a daughter named Melvina (CARTER) HAWKINS. She married Charles Edward HAWKINS.

I haven't added Martha (CARTER) HAWKIN's descendants to this "In Remembrance." There are so many of them.  Martha and Lewis had eight children. I have to sort through what I have. And it's odd that I only have one DNA match to this Benjamin DADE.  I came across someone who said that they were connected with Martha (DADE) CARTER. They didn't take the DNA test.

Last  month, I came across new leads from a marriage record.
Name:Mr. Elias Bartley
Marriage Date:29 Dec 1876
Marriage Place:Carroll, Missouri, USA
Spouse:Harriet Hughes

I'm not for sure if this couple is Elias Bartlett and Harriet Buffington.  I recall when my Grandmother, Jennie Bartlett remarried my Grandfather, John Blakye in 1902 , her maiden name was spell Bartle.

Harriett had may have had several names. Hooper, Fisher, Buffington and, Hughes.
Hooper on daughter Juanita (Bartlett) Armstrong's 1929 death record.
Fisher on Paul Bartlett's  1936 Social Security Application And Claims Index
Buffington on Lucy E. (Bartlett) Horan's 1939 Social Security Application And Claims Index

Welcome To The Month Of March!

I hope all who are searching are still marching along to the clues that you are stumbling across. I have been. And the hardest thing is, when we hit a brick wall. The clues just hang there.

I move on to other things. I search newspapers or google. I try do to keep looking at brick walls. It's a waste of time. We have to use judgments to know when to stop.

The Heart Of Searching For Family Connections

Welcome To February!

I can't recall when the inspiration for me to search for my family connections begin. Though the years, my heart of searching for family connections has grown. I've been connecting other family members to one another. Thank You, Jesus!

I pray that others who are searching and those who will have the desire to search for their family connections, will reach out to others so that they will discover more on their family history. There are a lot of people who don't know where to search searching.

I'm  thankful that there are people who are taking the DNA test. I've have more DNA cousins that I didn't know about. DNA is a good place to start your journey. It's helpful to start a family tree as well.

Thanks for reading.
God bless you.

Unexpected Greeters Of 2006

Saturday, 30 December 2006

Unexpected Greeters Of 2006

There is an update near the end of this blog: 7:40PM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have had some unexpected greeters this year as I came to our front door. Now, I am wise enough to start looking before I come on the porch. I will tell you of the GREETER that we came across this month.

My brother and I were coming back from somewhere. I had food in my. I was walking up to the porch as I normally do. I look in the area where I normally do. Well this time I got a surprise. I keep believing that I will not see what I think I will see. After I saw it, I ran down the steps as fast as I could. My brother thought that I fell down the steps. I will moving so fast.

I told him that there was a possum on the porch. He said that the possum will not bother me. I told him that I had food in my hands. My brother walk pass me up to the porch. He spoke to the possum to get out of here. He said you don't live here. Then my brother told me to come on up. I said NO! I told him to open the door first. After the door was open I ran up those steps and into the house.

I made it in the door OK. I was a bit shaky though. It took me about 5 minutes to settle down. My brother told me that the possum was just smiling at me. I thought to myself that big old fat thing was not smiling at me. I saw those teeth. Even thought I did not hear it, I knew that that thing was hissing at me. Smiling at me, my foot.

This brings me back to the first two greeters that I did not know was there. This was sometime earlier during this year. I was coming home from Friday Night Church. My brother was at the door waiting for me to come home.

So I thought, he told me to hurry up in the door. I turned around and saw not one but two possums. I did not see them as I was walking pass them. This was the time when I started to look in the porch when I come home at nights.

Then there was the time I came home and there was another creature greeted me. No it was not a possum. It was a big fat yellow cat. It scared me so much that my knees buckled and I fell all the way across the porch. Yeah, I am laughing right now as I am telling you this story. However, it was not funny when I had this encounter.

The cat did run off. I did manage to get up after laughing at what happened. I made it in the house. I told my brother what happened. He said you could have broken something. I was fine. I was not sore from the fall.

What I have been doing every time when I come home, I make sure I make a lot of noise when I come to the porch. I am making my presence know to whoever or whatever. Last night I had no greeters. I know that God has His angels watching over me every where I go. I claim psalms 91 every day.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wanted to share this story about three weeks ago. I was doing my Unity Study on my journey to Christmas. This is when I came up with the idea to share this stories and testimonies for this week. I hope that you were blessed by them. I thought of an unique way to share some of my life with you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE: I CAME HOME AFTER COMING BACK FROM THE STORE. I HAD A GREETER. IT WAS THAT BIG YELLOW CAT. MY KNEES DID NOT BUCKEL THIS TIME. I MANAGE TO WALK BY THE CAT WITH CONFIDENCE.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
