Introduction: Photos Of Unknown Relatives Part 1

On August 22, 2011, I was looking through some photos. I had some ideas come to me. I'm posting some photos of the unknown relatives. I started putting the photos in categories as babies, children and adults. There aren't a lot of photos.

Than as I was looking at some of the photos, I thought about some of my ancestors. I was wondering who each person in the photo could be? My imagination ran wild.

I started compiling photos of my Grandpa Leo Lankford's siblings. I thought to blog on their life by using some photos. I came up with about 12 blogs. Most of the photos came from Leo and Mary Lankfords home.

Than I came up with some more ideas. What if the photos were so and so? I was using my imagination as I looked at some photos.  Perhaps or could this have been so and so in the photos. It's just an idea.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about.
I posted this photo above on The Unknown Photo: Who I think they were. Than again I could be wrong.

I see that our ancestors tried to capture their life through photos. They took the time to pose for pictures. I know that was all they had back in their time.

There were some who could write. I'm glad that my ancestors took the time for picture. Even more took the time to correspond with one another.

May we continue to record our family history. May we take time to pose for photos. May we capture life through the photos or through what resources we have. May we persevere our family history for future generations. Amen.

The Julia White Connection:The Assumption Of The Life Of Mattie White

Who was Mattie White?

From what I've read and researched, she was the daughter of Julia White.  I can assume that her father was Andrew White. The year of Mattie's birth is not for sure.

Mattie White was to have been born in to slavery. I've been searching information about her. I have come up with different years of her birth. 1856, 1865 1867, 1877. I assume that she was born in the 1860's. However, oral history states that she was born in 1856.

I have been trying to solve this mystery for some time. It was in May of 2010 when I had some kind of breakthrough. I came across a 1930 Missouri census in Chariton County.

What information do I have on Mattie White? She had a daughter named, (Bob) Ella BENTLEY CARR. Ella's had a son named Willard Carr. This information came from a family history reunion booklets.

Well, on the 1930 census, I came across a Mattie White. She was a widow. She had a daughter named, Oressisa Hereford. There was a grandson, named William Carr. I see some connection here. Family history records state that Ella Bentley Carr passed away in 1923.

On the 1910 and 1920 census, Oressia was listed as Mattie's daughter. I found out that Oressia was born in 1902 and died in 1976. That's how I see that Mattie could have been born around 1862 or so.

That would have made Mattie about 40 when she gave birth to Oressia. I thought Oressia might have been Mattie's granddaughter. Ella White or Ella Bentley was born around 1886 in Missouri.

Here is what I found on the census of a Mattie White living near Andrew J. White in Chariton County MO. The years 1900 - 1930.

Head of house: Mattie White, a widow
Children on 1900 Missouri Census

Patrick White born about 1882
Alice    White born about 1884
Ella      White born about 1886
Jane     White born about 1889

On the 1910 Missouri Census: One of Mattie's children had died. Also, I've not located Patrick, Alice or Jane White. I don't know which child of Mattie died before 1910.

On the 1920 Missouri Census
                    Ella  White born about1882
                    Oressia White born about 1902

On the 1930 Missouri Census
Oressia Hereford was born about 1904
Grandson William Carr was born about 1923

There are a lot of questions that remind.
Were Martha and Mattie WHITE the same person?
Did Mattie or  Martha marry a man with the WHITE surname?
Did their children carry the WHITE surname?
Were the WHITE's that lived in the same area related?

Andrew J. White had a daughter names, Cornelia WHITE WOODS.
Did she have a son named Todd WOODS?
Could this be the link to the family tree?

There was a Todd Woods was listed a cousin to this union on my WHITE family.
How was Andrew J. WHITE related to the BLAKEYs and the WHITEs?

I believe that there was some connection with Andrew White's father Isaac White and  Julia White's husband Andrew White. Perhaps Isaac who lived next door was Andrew's brother. I do see some similarities.

There are many many other questions. Answers left unknown. Yet still there are mysteries. And there always will be mysteries in the family tree.

The Julia White Connection

I was looking back over the 1880 census record on Julia White, my father's father's father's mother. I came across something that I over looked. Julia had a grand daughter named Rebecca  White born in MO. Rebecca's parents were from VA.

So that meant...at least one of Julia's children was born in VA. Rebecca was listed as mulatto. I don't know which of Julia's child was the parent of Rebecca.

But as I looked at a slave schedule in 1850, I see a male mulatto who was 20. Perhaps that was Andrew's who was 40 or Julia's who was about 32.... a son...Would Julia have another son? The ages could have been different. The mulatto son could have been younger.

I am not for sure how many children Julia had. I have compiled names from the census records, news clip and other material I have found over the years.

Here is the list of Julia's children:

Linda White
born 1841

Mary White

John White
He married Katherine / Katie Estell who had 9 children.

Spencer White
He did marry First to Melinda Banks who had 3 daughterss
Than re married to Lou ?

Mattie White
She was said to have not married.
I don't know if Mattie and Martha were the same person.
I've come across both Mattie and Martha who were widowed on the census records.
I've found only on Martha on the 1880 Census.
Mattie was listed as having about 5 children on one of the census.

Richard White

He did marry. First to Jane Fergerson who had 13 or 14 children.
Richard married Mary Belle Brooks who was the widow of David Stapleton.

Seeking And Finding

On July 25, 2011, I was searching online and adding info on one of my websites. I was searching for one thing and something else came up. I found more information that I didn't have.

I was amazed by what I've discovered. I thought about it. I see that there are things that we know that information we want to know about. But thank God through the searching when we come across things by accident.

I was adding information about some on the branch of Louisa Jane Janie Dade Washington lineage. I came across some of their death dates. Also there were some links to their children. I wasn't expecting that.

I'm glad to see that there are people who are recording and wanting to know about their ancestors. They have a heart to record information. Than there are those seeking trying to find out things. Seekers what to find what they can. So they keep seeking.

May those who have the heart to record be a blessings. May those who search to find have patience on the journey. May those who seek, find what they are looking for. May we not grow weary on the journey. May there always be some surprises. May God get all the glory. Amen
